Make the Same Recipe Over and Over

One of the things I advise home cooks to do is to make the same recipe over and over. If you just jump from one recipe to the next to the next, you don’t really learn. 

But when you do the same recipe again and again, you become attuned to the nuances of the way ingredients behave.
